I learned the value of providing Pathfinders for students in this course. While we provide excellent bibliographic instruction for our students, they do not always understand the need for this information until a project is due in the class. By that point in the semester, they may have forgotten everything taught to them in the session. By providing online and printed information on how to conduct research, how to find materials in certain disciplines, and how to search databases, the library is able to reach these students and provide valuable information in their work. Preparing the Pathfinders also gives the librarian a chance to examine materials in the discipline to become more familiar with the resources. I also became aware of how much information is included in the area of Social Sciences and was able to acquire information about resources in many disciplines, a valuable skill in keeping the collection up to date for the patron.
