Through this course, I learned about academic freedom and various arms of the American Library Association which protect that freedom. I also learned about different kinds of libraries and, though I already work in an academic library, it was helpful to define the mission of my library's service as well as knowing how we differ from other types of libraries. As a service project, I began an index of Etude magazine, an out-of-print journal for American music educators. Already having received requests for this information, I plan to apply for a grant to complete the project and publish it for use by music libraries and musicologists.
