Through this course I honed my research skills. Already having a Ph.D. in musicology, I had done extensive research prior to taking the course. However, I was able to present ideas and have them evaluated to learn how best to write articles for publication. Since taking this class, I have published articles in three genalogy society quarteries and in two professional journals (West Tennessee Historical Society Papers and Heritage Quest [under the auspices of ProQuest]). I am able to look at the information critically and develop a strategy for presenting the information to the intended audience. As a result of developing this skill, I am asked frequently to write and edit materials at my university.
