This course allowed me to interact with librarians of various types of libraries to learn how collections are acquired and maintained. I became acquainted with various book jobbers, improved my concepts of creating a collection development policy, and reinforced concepts related to keeping the collection up-to-date and useful. While censorship has not been a major issue in my academic library, the information gained through this course will give me the insight to handle this issue should it surface in the future. Through study of various types of libraries, I am now able to determine what materials should be in an academic library and which (when received as gifts) should be given to other libraries or added to the annual book sale.
